00:52 about an hour and 10 minutes is everyone turns into pudding. So we

00:56 I think the semester just go ahead do the break at the middle.

01:45 floor. What you do is you the elevators, you get off the

01:48 , go to the left and go the side and about halfway down that

01:51 hallway. That's a group of offices instructional faculty. That's where I'm

01:55 All right. You can call me I'm in my office I will answer

01:59 phone unless I don't recognize the phone . If it says unknown. I

02:03 answer unknowns. All right. So but just like you I'm gonna be

02:09 for just a part of the day the summer. You know this I'm

02:12 here just for the morning and for office hours. The best way to

02:17 in touch with me is my Um That doesn't mean you can't come

02:20 visit me during my office hours. not saying don't do that. But

02:23 know if you're like I've got a And you call me like at 6:00

02:27 , you know, I'm not going be here. Right? And that's

02:31 you want to email me. And I respond to emails during business

02:35 You guys know what business hours Okay? So I'm not like

02:39 I don't live and die by In fact I get about 100 emails

02:42 day, which is why I don't and die by emails. And so

02:46 will only answer while I'm on So basically somewhere around eight o'clock is

02:51 I usually get here and then I leave around noon. I'll probably check

02:55 throughout the afternoon but I've won't be campus most likely anyway. Office hours

03:00 Tuesday through friday Mondays are the day gonna do exams. So I don't

03:05 office hours on that day so that one gets that special advantage. But

03:09 basically here for the rest of the . All right. Um if you're

03:14 , I do record all my that doesn't mean you have. That's

03:17 that's not a path to say don't to class, I'm gonna talk about

03:22 strategies in terms of of how to successful in a class like this and

03:26 of them is actually showing up. right. That doesn't mean if you

03:30 an emergency or something that you can't that. Absolutely by all means.

03:33 we're going to talk about some strategies little bit later. In fact I'm

03:37 gonna break this down. So today the first half is gonna be just

03:41 we set up the class and how study, not only in this

03:45 but in general. All right. the number one question I get.

03:49 after the first exam where like I always an a student, why am

03:52 getting seizures? We'll talk about Okay. And what I would encourage

03:57 to do is trust what I'm saying this. If you wanted to learn

04:01 to fish and a professional fisherman told all the tricks how to fish,

04:05 you listen to them? Yes. . You want to learn? Guess

04:09 I am? I'm a professional right? I mean, I like

04:13 so much. I stayed right? so I know how to be a

04:17 and and the things I'm gonna you are gonna actually decrease the amount

04:21 time that it takes to study for . It's gonna feel uncomfortable. Kind

04:25 like working out for the first time here exercise. No, it's

04:32 trust me. It's like the first it sucks. All right. But

04:36 you learn how to do it, becomes easy, you spend less time

04:39 , get better grades, You learn , which is like the trifecta of

04:42 , why you're here. Okay. then what we're gonna do after we

04:45 that stuff, then we're going to dive into the mp. There are

04:49 total of 17 classes for this entire . I mean, we run through

04:56 stuff. I'm gonna be like an up here when I talk, you

05:01 , that's how fast I go. right, So, you got to

05:04 of be prepared for that And so missing a day is like missing a

05:07 and a half of a normal That's why it's important to kind of

05:11 up. Alright, Anyway, first , make sure you read your

05:15 Alright. Syllabus basically tells you what course is about. It tells you

05:18 the policies of the course are, you all the fun stuff like where

05:21 the grades come from? I'm amazed often students email me about grades.

05:27 know, granted, I understand you are concerned about grades. I don't

05:30 about grades. In fact, all care about is whether or not you

05:32 the material, grades represent how you're the material. Alright. But that's

05:37 of the things we're gonna talk about little bit later. How are the

05:40 ? How do we get grades in class? But it's all there listed

05:43 the syllabus. All right, talks when you can get out of the

05:47 , when you, you know, do we get to keep your

05:49 That sort of stuff. What academic is. Um If you need

05:55 how to go about doing, that's they're listed in there and the easiest

05:58 to think about a silver is regardless which class it is, it's like

06:01 end user license. You've seen You know whenever you load a piece

06:05 software, you get that big list stuff, everyone just clicks. I

06:08 and moves on. You have no if you've given off your firstborn or

06:12 , right? And that's really what says. It says I'm agreeing to

06:15 these things in order to get these . And that's what the syllabus

06:18 I agree to do these assignments and these assignments, I'm gonna be valued

06:23 this way. And this is what going to get out of it.

06:27 . So make sure you understand what agreeing to do. A lot of

06:31 find out a little bit too oh, I didn't really want to

06:33 that. It's better to do that we take your money than after we

06:36 your money. Alright? Because school expensive. It's getting worse too.

06:42 right. So the big picture when can you draw withdraw when you

06:47 you drop? So the last day drop this class without any grade,

06:50 other words that appear on your we can still get to keep your

06:53 is June 9th. I think in next two days you get some freedom

06:58 movement, but don't quote me on . Alright, after June 27,

07:03 you say I am not happy with I'm performing in this class. You

07:07 withdraw with the W. And so will appear on your transcript. That's

07:11 the best strategy to withdraw especially if in the passing range and we'll talk

07:15 that a little bit later I Um But anyway so if you want

07:19 know what your academic calendar looks you can go to the U.

07:22 . Website. There's a little searching top just type in academic calendar and

07:25 gives you not only these things but other dates that may be of importance

07:29 significance. You guys know we have break in the summer July four.

07:34 right. It's a weekend. Yeah get like one day but we have

07:38 you know and so it's kind of to know those things. Uh Usually

07:42 the regular semester asked the seniors like many of you guys are graduating

07:45 You know a bunch of seniors said is the day that all your fees

07:49 due for graduation? Like what fees ? Yeah go check out your academic

07:54 because it's listed there says this is day that you have to get all

07:57 you have to apply for graduation. like but I did my four

08:01 Don't I get out? No there's that you have to do. So

08:04 at your academic counter that kind of you a sense of what's going

08:07 There's not a lot going on in summer but you do have a

08:10 So plan accordingly. Academic honesty. you know, basically you already know

08:17 rules, don't lie, don't don't steal right. And you

08:20 we can turn those into gray but what's really important is understanding what

08:24 see as academic honesty and so understand it means to cheat, what happens

08:30 you if you do. So that's there and I'm not going to presume

08:34 you do it. I just want to know there's a lot of students

08:36 I didn't know that going to So where we do our test and

08:40 take your phone in that's a violation the academic honesty policy. And you

08:44 be if you get caught with that , you are going to have some

08:48 of sanctions against you. Even if like, well, I didn't

08:51 I didn't couldn't have my phone. , there was a big sign that

08:54 , don't take your phone in And by the way, that's academic

08:56 , so understand what that is. see it's not just a punishment

09:00 it also tells you what your rights right. And so it's it it

09:04 says, so that, you know , you know, good for you

09:08 you know, how, how this works, that's important to know.

09:13 again, I mentioned accessibility or accommodations you uh need accommodations, you h

09:19 that and so you can go to website, use the search term dart

09:23 , it's named after Justin dart I know what the middle initial is,

09:27 if you do dart center that takes to the accommodation page, it shows

09:30 how you can go about getting You know we want to make sure

09:34 if you have them or need them you'll get them. Now again there's

09:37 process there and it may not be quick process but there is a process

09:43 do think through blackboard, you've all on blackboard, looked at our

09:45 Did you guys click around like I you to anyone break anything now see

09:49 told you can't break it. I it's not the best platform in the

09:53 but it's a platform so everything we is in that um I wanna point

09:58 out. All right, so I you can see all the links you

10:00 , so like I'm recording right now there's a link to where you can

10:04 get to watch those videos if you inclined to do. So I would

10:08 you only go to the videos if desperate, don't rely on them.

10:12 this is the one where I want kind of deal with, it has

10:15 do with the grades. So there's great book in blackboard and I upload

10:19 . Uh you know basically once a and invariably I'll have a student go

10:25 away my my grades aren't correct. it's like yeah I know because blackboard

10:29 always talk well with um like for where your homework assignments are achieved.

10:36 there might be some discrepancies there. important to look at them,

10:40 But don't use this as an All be all of where your grades

10:43 from. All right. It's basically way to keep track of your

10:46 So if you see something that doesn't . So like I'm gonna be

10:49 let's say you earned 100 on the . That really happened. But let's

10:53 pretend for a moment that you're in and you go and you look at

10:55 , it says you have a 30 like, what the hell happened?

10:59 , probably there was a flip in great book when I uploaded those

11:02 So that's a good thing to kind report to me. But if for

11:05 , you go on to achieve and do an assignment, you get 100

11:08 it. You see blackboard doesn't give credit for it. Just recognize achieving

11:12 are two computers that are trying to to each other and they're speaking foreign

11:16 . And so I always go to that, that different platform to get

11:20 grade. I don't go to blackboard calculate your grades. I'm just giving

11:23 numbers, so be prepared for, why mostly inaccurate grades. It

11:28 it's not a calculator, it can't , it's very, very bad at

11:32 . I'm gonna show you how to that in just a moment. Our

11:36 is digital, it's called anatomy and in context. It's by written in

11:41 . If you go to top that's where you purchase it. I

11:43 it's 100 and 15 might be 85 a semester, I really don't

11:48 so I apologize if my numbers are , but to be able to access

11:53 the materials for the class, it's for uh for top hat classroom,

11:58 like 30 bucks and so, well , I'm sorry, that's probably

12:03 So you need to have top hat that allows you access to the materials

12:06 need for the class plus the So that's why I think 1 15

12:09 then achieve is um homework platform to you Kind of practice the material that

12:17 learning. So that's another $30. in essence, that's probably the cost

12:22 roughly the cost for the class or the materials for the class. Um

12:29 I want to try to do is want to explain to you a little

12:31 of the philosophy behind how this class . Alright, so I've been teaching

12:36 and anatomy physiology here at the university about 16 years, I think that's

12:41 . Alright, so when you guys around three or four years old is

12:44 I started here, which is both and exciting to me, right?

12:48 like, wow, I've been here long time. Alright, so while

12:51 been here, what I've done is actually learned how people learn right

12:56 Like I said, I'm I'm a learner, but when you're a professional

13:00 it's like things come naturally, like you look at a basketball player,

13:03 a pro basketball player, you look things like their natural out on the

13:06 because they have these natural skills. go into my field pretty much have

13:10 natural skills, but that doesn't mean we don't all have them, we

13:15 to just kind of develop them. what I've learned over time is that

13:19 are right ways to learn material versus ways. Like let me just ask

13:25 know, this is a safe space of and I say sort of because

13:28 will make fun of people sometimes, not this time. How many are

13:33 ? See my hand it's up. a procrastinator. I wait till last

13:37 to study. Alright. I was worst student in college that I could

13:42 ever be. I would show up class is never having studied anything and

13:46 got B pluses or a minuses and was good enough for me. I

13:51 look at some of your you're just mental fingers at me, aren't

13:56 Right? I drove my parents I drew my professors nuts. I

14:00 everybody nuts and I did this throughout graduate. I mean my all the

14:04 through, up until my graduate career and that's when it caught up to

14:09 . All right. But what I've is that there is a natural way

14:14 study. And so what that it's basically it's repetition. We already

14:17 about repetition, you know? But a right way to do repetition.

14:21 a wrong way to do repetition. so really what it is, it's

14:25 going through and having just the right of distance between when you're exposed to

14:30 and when you're reintroduced to it, actually increases your ability to understand

14:35 Right? So if someone gives you phone number for example and then 10

14:38 later I'm just making up numbers 10 later they come up and give you

14:41 phone number again. There's a greater that you're going to remember the phone

14:44 than saying if you repeat it repeatedly minute. All right. And so

14:49 design behind the course is based on type of philosophy. All right.

14:55 what we have is we're going to received being seeing the material multiple

15:01 All right. In order for you retain longer and better. So the

15:07 before class. Right. I gave guys a textbook. You guys are

15:10 the textbook? Have you ever bought textbook? Never read the textbook.

15:14 mean, come on. Yeah. and your parents get really upset about

15:17 , don't they? I mean you to pretend like, oh yeah yeah

15:19 read that $300 biology textbook. You and they just kind of nod their

15:23 and wonder why you're not doing All right we read in this

15:29 All right. You all all of guys planning on health professions or anyone

15:33 just taking this class for fun. no one's everyone's health professions. Come

15:40 . Yes I mean nodding heads is saying I'm about to fall asleep.

15:44 that's what you do. You know the nap jerk. Right? Yeah

15:49 you're going to find out if you're into health professions you are you are

15:53 into lifelong learning. All right. are for every profession in the health

15:59 you have to earn C. S. Continuing education credits right?

16:04 like my wife two years she's a therapist. Every two years she has

16:07 get 30 c. e. Alright every two years. So it

16:12 you will be reading stuff from now the end of time until you say

16:17 can't do this anymore. I'm retiring you need to know how to

16:21 So one of the things we're gonna doing is we're gonna be reading the

16:24 . The purpose of reading is not because we're going to read the stuff

16:28 because that's gonna be the first time expose yourself to something. Alright.

16:31 we what we're going to say is gonna be multiple times. So when

16:34 read this is not about reading things that you're in graining it in your

16:40 . It's like reading a magazine for , right? You're reading through to

16:44 yourself to some ideas. Another way can think about is if you go

16:48 a trip, what's the first thing gonna do before you go on the

16:51 ? What's that? Uh Yeah. Planet. But how what do you

16:55 how do you plan it? Did just say well, I'm gonna go

16:58 Orlando. So I'm just gonna get the car and just start driving random

17:02 . What do you do Pat? , no, no, we're already

17:06 the car before we before we get the car. What do we need

17:09 kind of do know where Orlando Oh man. If you trust

17:15 you're gonna get yourself lost. I think about all the highways that are

17:19 construction here. If you've ever, you've ever drone driven east into Louisiana

17:25 you right before the chapel, a . You know if they put,

17:30 , you can't go this way, only one way you can go which

17:33 north and if you're trying to get new Orleans, good luck.

17:38 So you should probably look at a . Kind of figure out where you're

17:45 . That's what reading is is looking the map to figure out where we're

17:48 go, doesn't require you to understand I know in order to get to

17:53 . I'm gonna take I 10 as as I can go before there's another

17:57 to go south towards Orlando. I remember what the highway is. All

18:01 . Real simple. There can be , bypasses, detours, all sorts

18:05 things along the way, but at I know which way I need to

18:09 . We come to class to start what we just learned and to start

18:15 in on what's important. That's why show up here. All right now

18:19 can do this on your own. how many of you guys are experts

18:21 A. And P. Oh, me. All right. It's hard

18:27 self teach. You guys have figured out over the last three years,

18:30 you? Right. Think about all classes you sat in and turned off

18:34 video feeds and basically said I'm gonna make myself lunch and then watch something

18:39 on Youtube and then it was time the test and you're like, oh

18:41 , I don't know anything. The idea here is you come to

18:47 because it's going to force you to in the material and then what we're

18:51 do is we're gonna go through what just read and you're gonna go,

18:55 , I see that. Ah That makes sense. Oh, that's

18:58 that was mentioned. All right. we're gonna identify the important ideas and

19:02 going to basically take notes to say are the things I should probably know

19:06 then what we do is we take information that we just learned and then

19:09 gonna practice it. All right. idea that's what the purpose of homework

19:14 . You've all done this if you makes what Perfect. Alright. If

19:20 an athlete, can you go and what you what you're skilled at doing

19:25 practice? No. Right. You , that's what all that is.

19:31 other thing is when we are what is the purpose of the

19:34 The test is not to evaluate you a person is to see whether or

19:37 you learn the material. So, we're doing is we're studying to see

19:41 we learn the material that we were to do. And so we're going

19:43 actually organize these ideas that we picked here that were first introduced there and

19:48 going to review them for that time see whether or not we learned

19:54 And that's really what this class is around. So what you're gonna see

19:58 that this class has a lot to in terms of Oh, I'm feeling

20:02 I'm really, really busy. All . That's just because of the timing

20:07 we're kind of set in. So have top hat assignments. Alright.

20:11 hat assignments. If you go on top that you're gonna see something that

20:14 like this. You'll see. Reading lecture review All right. The reading

20:19 simply what you have to do before . So like After class at

20:24 the reading opens up and it's going stay open until the next class.

20:27 our next class? Tomorrow? Oh God. You mean I gotta read

20:30 by tomorrow? Yes because you want come to class prepared to go?

20:35 I've read this stuff, I may have understood it but at least I've

20:38 through it right? And then um should point out just because of the

20:44 out period. The first three there's some there's some leeway right?

20:48 by thursday everything's gonna start sinking So like right now if you haven't

20:51 the book, you know if you if you wait until tomorrow like I

20:55 get my paycheck until tomorrow, that's . Right? But in a couple

20:59 days you better be on top of and then after every class, there

21:05 a way it's it's a little simple . A homework assignment that says did

21:10 understand and figure out the things that were trying to learn in other

21:14 what I've done is I've already done of the heavy lifting for you.

21:17 gonna ask you some basic questions like you understand this? Can you compare

21:21 contrast that so that you're focusing in what I would call the learning objectives

21:25 things that you're supposed to learn. right. These were going to help

21:29 focus on those primary concepts. So top hat has two parts, it

21:34 up 10% of your grade. Something before class. Something after

21:38 Now, I'm gonna point something else here in just a second.

21:42 there's something else that says chapter That's very different. It's not the

21:47 lecture review. So, note the . Lecture review. Right. It

21:52 up right after class. All Then we have the achieved stuff.

21:56 is just a different publisher and it's same. It's it's more questions that

22:01 not open ended instead what they they're more like multiple choice and drag

22:06 picture. That sort of type of . And again, here you have

22:09 37 hours to do this. The ones these these lecture reviews. You

22:16 ? Well, since we're again truncated , it opens up after lecture and

22:20 they close sunday at midnight. All . All our exams are on monday

22:25 the exception of the one after the , Which is July seven, which

22:29 like a Wednesday or something. So right. So, they they're open

22:33 . And the reason for that is might take a little bit of time

22:36 I want you to have the freedom be able to kind of work on

22:38 as you go. But these are like did you get it? And

22:42 you have a little over 37 hours do that. And I have to

22:47 myself to put this up here because I forget um after a lecture today

22:51 gonna be a small I call it quiz. It's not you can do

22:55 as many times you want to. open for extended period of time.

22:58 basically says did you pay attention You know? So do you know

23:01 rules of the class? So that's of your chief grade Now. Some

23:08 like extra problems. So after we the week on Friday at 11:00,

23:15 where you can see we have these they're called pre exam reviews. These

23:19 count for anything if you don't do . It doesn't matter if you do

23:23 . Does't matter for your benefit. right. But they're found on top

23:28 they're not the same thing as that lecture review. All right. And

23:33 they're open up just so that you extra questions if you need them.

23:37 right. Um They have also the types are all kinds of weird

23:43 They can be opening at all sorts things. I'm gonna point out right

23:46 all our tests are always gonna be full multiple choice which is what this

23:50 says. Uh We have four There's our test dates. I said

23:57 seventh I guess it's the sixth. Monday the 13th monday the 20th,

24:03 the 27th. And then we have holiday and then so you have an

24:08 day to study and then we have final on the sixth. So each

24:13 the tests they're only an hour. 50 questions you can take them at

24:18 time during the day. For those you taking the lab, you probably

24:21 want to schedule your exam during the . So just know that you need

24:25 be able to make sure you take exam when it's available. But we

24:29 meet on Mondays, it's just So you're going to go over to

24:33 how many first time here at the of Houston? All right, welcome

24:37 U. H. You know go . I should do that.

24:40 Right, okay. Um casa let's ask people here is casa fun

24:46 those who have been here. Let's . They don't like casa.

24:50 casa is basically it's a testing center there's multiple spots on campus where they

24:55 these tests. This is not a of casa, this is a random

24:58 from the internet, who knows what is actually. Um But in essence

25:03 it is basically just a bunch of of computers, big rooms, bunch

25:06 Proctor's wandering around making you feel uncomfortable that's their job, right? And

25:12 what you do is you just basically up on the day of the exam

25:15 the at the time that you're gonna . And what you do is you

25:18 I. D. I guess they the thumbprint still do they do the

25:21 thumbprint still? Okay. Oh it's index finger. Okay so it's a

25:26 a biometric basically said this is you know because anybody can fake an

25:30 D. But you can't fake a . I don't think maybe you

25:33 Who knows? Um but anyway you if you show up, you take

25:36 exam, it's all on on on computer, you got one hour to

25:39 it. 50 questions. It's gonna cold, uncomfortable, flickering lights.

25:45 sucks. But exams sucks. So it's just more misery sally torchy

25:54 Um Just some ideas. First off exams are non cumulative. Alright sciences

26:01 just presume that you're retaining the information just taught you right? You can

26:06 about like this. You can't take without having taken some trigonometry,

26:11 Some pre cow right? Do the unit of biology without understanding the first

26:17 . I mean you could but it's really hard. So the idea is

26:20 building on knowledge and so I'm not to ever ask a question from an

26:24 unit in you know in a later . But I presume you understand that

26:29 you're not gonna be able to answer questions. If you didn't understand

26:32 All right. The other thing I'd out is you know we have four

26:35 . I don't drop any of them you spend any time studying that's valuable

26:38 . I'm not gonna devalue your time so your efforts are all going to

26:46 now to get to um um Either hat or to get to achieve.

26:52 If you're on the blackboard, that menu, you'll see course in phone

26:56 when you're ready to register. You go through course info and that allows

27:00 to register when you want to do assignment. You can just click go

27:04 content and just click on the thing you need to get to. That

27:07 you don't have to store up another . It will take you directly

27:12 What I like to do is I to show you what a week looks

27:15 . That's kind of scary. A of arrows and stuff. And

27:19 we're in the summer semester. So are going to be fast and and

27:24 . But what this kind of shows here is like, alright, Let's

27:28 just pretend that we're next week. right. So, you had your

27:31 and so your readings are always gonna at 11:00 just to make your life

27:35 to remember. Okay, after a , that's when it opens up.

27:37 then so you you have time to until lecture starts. All right.

27:41 then that assignment closes. You can't great on that. And there's little

27:45 embedded in the reading assignment that are simple if like I'll tell you right

27:49 if you don't know the answer, look at the paragraph above where the

27:52 is right? Some of you already change this, I'm gonna do the

27:56 and get out of there. Trust will make your life harder if you

27:59 that. Alright, So then you come show up to lecture right?

28:03 as well do it anyway. I you gotta go to lab so show

28:06 here and then the homework opens up it's open until midnight the next

28:11 Right? And then remember we also that there's this lecture review that counts

28:15 your grade. That's opened up until exam at midnight. Right? So

28:19 when that so you can see there's multiple climates. They kind of just

28:24 roll And so you're going to be something every day. The longest

28:30 it's going to be two hours. depends on how slow you read.

28:34 you're not practiced reader, it's going take longer. If you can read

28:37 stuff quick, it's gonna be quick you sit there and take notes for

28:41 hours. Guess how long the reading going to take six hours,

28:45 Don't don't be your own obstacle is what I'm going to get it.

28:52 assignments. Take 15 to 30 Alright. These again. How much

28:57 you want to put into them to 30 minutes is gonna be two

29:00 Just depends on how you want to that. So the idea here,

29:05 you're kind of looking at this is need to organize how you approach things

29:10 that's in essence, one of the lessons you need to do. If

29:13 want to be successful, I organize right. I want to be

29:17 I'm just gonna organize myself. I'm set limits in times of what I'm

30:33 as you self analyze performance, Does that make sense? If you

30:38 something and you don't do it the that you wanted to, you kind

30:41 have to ask the question why didn't do well? And then what you

30:45 is then you make correction and then try to apply that the next

30:49 So what this will do is there's halves to it. The first half

30:52 how prepared do you feel you are this exam? And then the one

30:56 after the exam opens up, it now that you've taken the exam and

31:00 score where you as prepared as you you were and where weren't you

31:05 Where were the areas that you were you didn't do well so that you

31:09 make those corrections. If you don't this naturally when you take exams or

31:12 anything then you will not be moving success and this is just one of

31:19 tools that you should carry. It's meta analysis. Self Self analysis.

32:38 So usually what you can do you calculate a percentile and just say okay

32:41 I have 97% that's 9.7 points that's simple achieved is kind of the same

32:47 we have 17 assignments plus that orientation told you about that's gonna be on

32:52 . So there's 18 of them. so take the average of the 18

32:56 people get hundreds on these things. can do these as many times as

32:59 need to in the time limit until get a perfect score. I would

33:02 you to do that given the opportunity repeat something until you get perfect.

33:07 advantage of that Another 10% of your . This is where everyone struggles are

33:13 exams. Alright. So, we four exams. There are 100 points

33:16 . You can just think of the , right? And that's 80% of

33:19 grade. So, if you want do the math, this is kind

33:25 grade. I take the average of exams plus the extra credits that I'm

33:31 that meta analysis stuff. Right? I multiply that by 80%. I

33:36 in the average of the top hat multiply that by 10% and I add

33:41 the average of the achieve grades multiplied 10%. That's my final grade.

44:28 nuts. I told you I'm the who didn't study for exams and I

44:30 pull off a B plus or a . Just going in. Probably not

44:34 listening or reading. I took calculus . Alright. Where I never showed

44:40 for anything. I didn't show up class. I didn't show up for

44:43 . I only walked, walked in exams. I don't remember doing

44:47 right? And I remember I took class and I didn't know about the

44:51 that the professor was the chair of class and on my final I turned

44:53 my final exam and he saw my at the top of the exam and

44:57 pulled me aside and he said you understand math, but you're the laziest

45:03 I've ever had, I don't want taking another math course ever again.

45:07 was like, well yes, And that was fine because I just

45:09 my math requirement anyway. So I like whatever, you know, that's

45:13 type of student I was all right I could get away with it even

45:18 I drove my parents nuts because they want to be pluses, they're not

45:20 for B pluses and minuses, parents are paying for is right?

45:24 so they were like, why don't get that? Might be, why

45:26 I get a name if I can a minus, I don't have to

45:27 anything, you know, they drove bonkers. Then I got into grad

45:32 All right. And there was, was a lag time between undergrad and

45:36 school. I taught high school for years and so I I kind of

45:40 got it from the other side. kind of knew what it was like

45:43 a teacher and seeing lazy students from other side. But I got into

45:48 school and I was sitting in my bargaining in my biochem class and the

45:53 walks in literally with a cup of , that was it. I mean

45:56 no computers, no nothing. And party comes wheeling behind them, this

46:02 with stacks of paper on top. right now, remember this is before

46:07 had computers and stuff like that. you didn't get your syllabus. They

46:10 out syllabi and we're like, all , there's the syllabus for the year

46:14 it's like these I probably exaggerate, they're about 68" tall and they're like

46:18 out these packets to everybody. And like, all right, he's all

46:22 . So this is what you need know for the first exam. And

46:24 just sat there for a second I can't fake this. I could

46:28 undergrad. I cannot fake grad Right. It's just too much.

46:33 I realized I gotta figure out how be that good student. Now,

46:39 I've been around, you know, and stuff for a really long

46:42 And what it boils down to if want to be a learner, it

46:47 down to being a time manager, all it is. It's managing your

46:53 wisely and well, in order to successful. That sounds stupid, doesn't

47:00 ? But the idea here and you the first ones really don't wait till

47:04 last minute to study. Okay, , duh, but why? All

47:08 . The answer has to do with right up here. This is called

47:12 ebbing House forgetting curve. It actually a study by this guy who started

47:17 this in the 18 hundreds. Now is a made up curve. They

47:19 is just something I pulled off but it demonstrates what What is being

47:24 learned is that if you're given a of information. So let's say you

47:28 something, you now have 100% knowledge then over time very quickly you lose

47:34 information right? If I told you numbers and I started rambling on for

47:40 little bit and then about 10 minutes asked you, what were those six

47:43 , you might be able to give two or three of them, not

47:45 even the unit in the right at least you just go like well

47:48 , there was a five and I there was a seven in there or

47:51 three and be like, yeah, , you're good, right? And

47:54 is basically showing you is that if don't use it, we lose it

47:59 . This is basically the premise behind term and long term memory. If

48:02 brain determines that it's not something that's , it's like well forget this,

48:06 just gonna let it go away. . And so when you sit in

48:09 classroom like this, first off, bored out of your skulls. Trust

48:12 , I see everyone's expression, You , my favorite one is this

48:17 it's like, you know, I tell how you guys are receiving the

48:22 and so you got to understand is the first thing is I know that

48:27 hearing stuff and it's coming at you fast and your brain is sitting there

48:30 well, what do I need to ? What do I need to know

48:32 I need to know. And so sit in class, you can gather

48:34 this information and then the first thing do is you go walk off and

48:37 do something else. And when you off and walk off and do something

48:41 , you continually lose that material. right. So let's say we practice

48:46 wonderful practice of procrastination because we're all at it and we wait until the

48:50 before the exam to actually do the or to study for the exam.

48:54 grant this is a 31 day but let's just pretend this is a

48:57 day uh graph, right? So I have 100% you know after

49:02 just go here, we're here six , Right? And again, this

49:05 made up numbers. You only remember of the material that you were introduced

49:10 six days ago. So that means a student, you now have to

49:15 teach. What you already said is a very, very efficient way of

49:19 75% of the material that you've already introduced once. And that's just one

49:26 . Alright, imagine this for two . Three lectures. Four lectures which

49:29 our case today Gonna Be five That's why studying sucks because we forget

49:37 and we realized we forget everything and sucks and it makes me feel

49:41 Not like feeling stupid. So then gonna put it off and put it

49:44 because I don't like feeling stupid and I go in the exam and then

49:46 panic. Or the night before the , I'm panicking and I'm gonna stay

49:49 all night and doing stuff. It's , ah I already asked how many

49:55 have been an athlete at one All right, now, athletes will

50:00 every day, right? Imagine taking that practice, you know, and

50:07 it on the day before whatever the is, whether it's basketball, if

50:11 playing basketball or a volleyball game or meet or football game or whatever it

50:17 , all the practice that you've been all that time and saying the day

50:21 the event is when I'm gonna do and it's gonna make me prepared for

50:23 event. Would you look at Yeah, I can see the head

50:27 . It's no, that's not gonna right? Same thing. If

50:31 if you work out right, you have to work out every day.

50:34 a physiologist. Trust me, You have to work out every

50:37 Just wait till the end of the . All working out. You're going

50:40 do for the full month, just it on that last weekend. Same

50:45 , right? People are looking at like, you've gotta be kidding

50:48 I know better. My brain tells that. That can't possibly be

50:53 Well, your brain is like a in that it needs to be exercised

50:58 . You need to introduce material on regular basis. Like I was describing

51:02 in order for you to retain it . So if it doesn't work for

51:06 muscles and it doesn't work as as an athlete, why do you

51:10 your brain is gonna be any So Plan it out, figure out

51:15 I'm gonna expose myself to material because I'm forgetting, if I re expose

51:20 to material, I can bring myself to 100% and it changes the slope

51:24 the curve. In other words, amount of time between uh so here

51:28 took one day for me to get to 80% in this little graph.

51:31 if I bring myself up, it takes me two days. Next time

51:35 takes me four days or three days so on and so on and so

51:39 . So the idea is, is I do small exposures over time,

51:45 gonna happen is I'm never gonna forget then when it comes time to actually

51:48 and say for the exam, I less time studying, alright, It's

51:53 as hard. I don't feel right? And I'm going to achieve

51:57 goals that I want to achieve. studying first is, is use your

52:04 . Well, all right. safe space. How many of you

52:09 when you've been studying have done something this. You know you're sitting

52:12 you're like you make that promise to first, you have to make a

52:15 to yourself this semester is going to different. Have you ever done that

52:18 ? Yeah. Okay. Alright. all we've all we've all done it

52:22 semester is going to be different. then what you do is you sit

52:25 with your stuff, you put your out in front of you got all

52:27 materials in front of you, You down and start studying in five minutes

52:30 you're like I can't study in this , it's too much of a mess

52:34 you go and start cleaning up the right? Or and then after you

52:37 through and it's like you look at bathroom like that bathroom has never been

52:41 , there's no way I can study that bathroom, not being clean your

52:44 there behind the toilet with a little , like no one's ever been back

52:48 before, you know? And then you clean all that stuff and you're

52:51 well I gotta take a shower now I'm I'm all filthy and you take

52:54 shower and then you're like well now hungry, how am I going to

52:57 if I'm not hungry? So you to the kitchen and you make yourself

53:00 meal and then it's like oh I I made a mess in here and

53:02 clean that up and then finally sit down again. You start studying for

53:05 minutes and you're like you can get twitter. It's like man I've been

53:08 for four hours right? I mean all done that and what you need

53:14 understand is that when you study, study, when you're not studying,

53:17 not studying. It's recognizing those two , right? So if you're gonna

53:23 , Do it again it doesn't have be three hours. You know do

53:27 30 minutes sit down and study for minutes. I'm gonna show you how

53:30 be efficient at it so that it . But the idea is is that

53:34 lie to yourself and say that you're something because let me tell you the

53:39 story in the world that you can your friends man. I I studied

53:42 15 minutes, clean the bathroom For hours and then I got a 30

53:47 exam. If you're gonna go down flames. I mean you might as

53:50 have an excellent story. It's like to Mexico and party all night then

53:55 back and take the exam. That's much better story isn't it?

54:00 I partied in Mexico last night, it out. I got a

54:06 He's like okay you're the person I hang out with. All right now

54:13 is don't over study and don't understudy ? Use the right amount of

54:17 So if you understand what it is need to learn, you should be

54:19 to kind of calculate how much effort need to put into it. And

54:23 again, I see people like I all night for this. You didn't

54:28 well for one. # two. you have to stay up all night

54:34 you're done studying. When you recognize you're done, you're done. You

55:48 ? You know why it doesn't Because when you're a liar, all

55:52 , humans are notorious liars were really good liars. We lie to

57:02 summer, maybe 45. It sounds a lot, but I can make

57:06 print smaller and I could turn into slides. Right? It's it's the

57:10 is the information. So what you is you say, okay, if

57:13 have this block of information to how do I organize it myself so

57:19 it's something that I can manage by organizing yourself. You've already turned the

57:24 into your own information. The notes you're going to see up here are

57:28 to remind me of what I need talk about, right? I created

57:32 . I know it's there. So I got to do is look

57:35 the slide go. Yeah, I what this is and it has extra

57:38 in here for me just in case forget something, right? But if

57:41 have my pile of notes, that mean you're going to be any

57:43 If all you're doing is reading So turning my notes into your notes

57:48 the first step and notice what we've here. If I've read it once

57:52 to class and I'm writing my notes ? How many times have I exposed

58:34 review or introduction and then actually I even tell you what that lecture

58:40 was. But I'm glad you're paying . Right? And that's again,

58:44 you're sitting over, he told me that's the thing I was telling you

58:48 . Information goes in and it goes back out again. So what you

58:51 do is you want to figure out is it I want to do and

58:53 then what you do, you break down into the things that I was

58:58 about, right? Or who are professors? So if you're like learning

59:02 , the introduction, anatomy and physiology like, well what are the different

59:05 that I had to learn about? had to learn about A. And

59:06 had to learn about being I had learn about C. And had to

59:08 about D. Okay, well, you had to learn about A.

59:11 A. Is what are the ideas the facts that are important for me

59:14 understand? A. That's your Those are the details. And if

59:20 write all that stuff down, you're end up with about two or three

59:23 of notes. Now let me ask just in a simple thing, 45

59:59 right. So lectures are the learning ? You identify the learning objectives?

60:06 differences and then what I've done for , right? I've already set that

60:11 for you. All right. This considered a freshman level class. I

60:14 expect you guys to be able to solely on your own. I know

60:17 I have people who are upper level men in here. I have post

60:21 in here. I know that. the idea is that A. And

60:24 . Is a freshman level course. so I've already done that. That's

60:27 those post lecture exam questions are. to help guide you through identifying what

60:31 learning objectives are. So when I , do you know what this

60:35 Can you explain what that is? you compare and contrast these ideas?

60:38 I'm basically doing is saying here are learning objectives. You should know these

60:42 of things in the details under which into those types of categories. All

60:48 . And so that's kind of what building your notes around are those kind

60:50 ideas. Alright. And it tells what you need to learn. So

60:54 when you walk out of class where learned, I learned these ideas.

60:58 , it's when it comes to note , don't write everything you see on

61:01 slide. Alright? If you you're being you're basically being a secretary

61:05 a stenographer and that's an important The important information explains what you're trying

61:09 learn. All right. So, anyone ever done this to a

61:14 Right? Yeah, coloring book. ? It's not a coloring book if

61:17 want. There are anatomy coloring They're really, really cool, you

61:21 , But highlighters are there to identify little tiny thing. So don't do

61:25 . Don't scribble stuff like, like . What you wanna do is you

61:29 to condense the information down. I using these two because they're, they're

61:34 good contrasts. So for example, up here, this is a picture

61:38 someone did have a heart that's far than I would ever do. I'm

61:41 just draw my heart for you real there. That's that's my heart.

61:49 we laugh because one I'm not an . All right. But the reason

61:54 draw it like that is because it me one second to draw it.

61:57 probably took about 10 minutes. And I have more important things to

62:02 than to draw for 10 minutes. mean there are cartoons on YouTube to

62:08 or whatever you find interesting. Keep your picture simple. Right?

62:14 things to yourself in your own Your notes are for you and for

62:18 else. Right. I mean, can give them to whoever you want

62:20 but remember you're writing to you. for example, up here, which

62:26 kind of scary. You can imagine they did is they first drew their

62:28 and then what they started doing is started walking themselves through, they started

62:33 things as they went along and then that horrible mess. But what they

62:37 doing is they're explaining to themselves as were going along, which is what

62:41 purpose of a note is to explain yourself what's going on. I use

62:47 of examples that are easy to At least in theory. Like if

62:50 talking about the cardiovascular system, I talk about the highway system in Houston

62:54 we've all been on that. So you can do that to use

62:59 that you understand. Use abbreviations and . Anyone ever going grocery shopping with

63:04 list. Do you ever write full ? No, you put cheese when

63:10 want cheese because you already know what of cheese you want unless you have

63:13 special recipe. Which case then you note which type of cheese it

63:18 So putting the amount of detail into notes is necessary for you to remember

63:24 you can't remember. Right? Does kind of makes sense? So the

63:28 here is you're building your notes for to make this fast and quick.

63:34 not about spending a lot of I'll be the first person to tell

63:36 my class is not the most important you'll ever take in your life.

63:41 . And at any given time I that you'll probably be taking more than

63:44 class. So my job is not to take up all your life

63:48 All your time throughout the day. just telling you how you can be

63:53 to get this stuff done. I about being focused versus unfocused. If

63:59 going to sit down to study, , Say I'm gonna study for 30

64:02 and study for 30 minutes, then up and have a blast,

64:06 Don't be unfocused. Don't stare around room and call it studying. There

64:11 better things that you could be doing I first started doing this. I

64:15 the Simpsons. Alright. I mean watched them like religiously and there was

64:20 episodes back to back in syndication, one and the other and then there

64:24 the news and I said, all , well I think I can give

64:27 one episode of the Simpsons because I've them all 1000 times. And if

64:31 miss one episode, it's not gonna the end of my day. So

64:33 gonna use 30 minutes of my day study. And that's what I set

64:37 is my time to study, literally 30 minutes after 30 minutes I'm

64:42 I'm out. All right. And know you guys aren't like me.

64:47 this is not as when I first doing this, this was very appealing

64:50 a lot of students. Now. like, I'd like to do this

64:54 to show you my digestive system, you how fast I can draw this

64:59 what a wonderful artist I am. already seen my heart? Here's my

65:04 system, digestive system is done in A and P. Two but I

65:08 to show you what I'm kind of about. So, you can imagine

65:11 pages of notes for the digestive system to explain to myself. So,

65:14 I do is I would say first have a mouth, you know,

65:17 you have the esophagus, the esophagus down to the stomach, stomach goes

65:21 small intestine. Small intestine turns in large intestine. There's uranus.

65:26 notice what I'm doing, how I'm it to myself, you know,

65:29 it's like, okay, well there's other structures involved here. You've got

65:31 pancreas uh you also have the gallbladder then you have a liver.

65:37 maybe you want to draw teeth And what I do is I go

65:41 and I label these things as I'm along. What's what's going on

65:45 You know, stomach has a lot stuff going on with it. So

65:48 the liver pancreas, lots of small , Large intestine. Not that

65:54 I could turn 45 slides and granted I know with stuff backwards,

65:58 forwards. But I can turn 45 worth of material into one page.

66:03 that's what you're trying to shoot for how do I organize this stuff so

66:07 can manage it myself and you don't to be an artist to do.

66:12 as I've proven quite clearly, but I see that circle, I know

66:17 a mouth. So when do you ? All right? When you study

66:26 an hour of class, you should spending about 30 minutes. The rule

66:29 thumb is, have you guys ever uh you know, you have certain

66:32 hours you go for, this class like three student credit hours for every

66:37 hour. It's assumed that there are credit hours outside of class being

66:41 That's why your days are so weird college, right? So like I've

66:44 a class and I've got this big gap in another class. The idea

66:48 that you're supposed to be spending. the idea behind that is not that

66:51 have ever enforce it, but the is that free time is meant for

66:57 , that's what we're presuming you're doing it. So, if you're taking

67:00 hours, that means you have nine of time spent per week outside of

67:06 studying. That's that's the intent. don't need all that time. But

67:10 would say for every hour class, 30 minutes preparing your notes. You

67:15 , do this right after class while still fresh in your brain, write

67:18 everything you have you done review what's is the key thing here. All

67:25 , then, that's gonna help you what you don't know and then what

67:29 wanna do is you want to kind focus on that and what you're doing

67:31 you're actually preparing the materials for studying the exam, okay, When you

67:37 for the exam, you don't go to that big stack of notes?

67:42 the 45 pages of notes or really 300 pages of notes. What you

67:46 is you go to the notes that prepared if it has all the information

67:49 know for the exam because that's what is telling you. Then you focus

67:53 that. And I already told you reading your notes is a bad approach

67:59 studying. So what do you Well, here's a secret. All

68:04 information you know for the exam is in your brain or at least footprints

68:09 . So what you do is you those notes that you prepared, Turn

68:12 upside down and hide them from Alright. And then what I want

68:16 to do is I want to get blank piece of paper. The scariest

68:19 in the world. Why is blank of paper scary? You have to

68:24 stuff on it. Right? So do we always do whenever you have

68:26 do anything? What's the first thing do when you get a blank piece

68:29 paper, put your name on Now it's no longer blank kate,

68:34 blank piece of paper and then start through what you learned. What was

68:37 first thing I learned? What was first lecture about? The first lecture

68:40 was about uh oh it was about introduction, Anatomy and physiology. What

68:45 what is the hierarchy of of of living organism? Okay. And then

68:49 start putting down everything you remember. the next thing? What's the next

68:52 ? What you just kind of go every single thing that you've learned?

68:55 right? And then once you finish down everything you've learned, you take

68:59 notes and you turn them right side and you compare everything you wrote down

69:04 that piece of paper that matches what's your original notes? Is something you

69:08 ? Pat yourself on the back. know something. Here's the hard

69:13 Everything you didn't write down correctly or write down something you don't know.

69:17 are the questions you're missing on the . Alright? So what do you

69:21 ? How do you correct it? don't go I'll learn it next

69:24 correct your notes, correct your your notes. Alright? If you didn't

69:29 it down write it down. If wrote it down wrong, scratch it

69:32 , correct it. All right now you're doing is you're going through that

69:36 process of basically saying you didn't do correctly, shame on you fix

69:41 And what you're going to do is going to remember the next time you

69:43 through and do it again because you're to do it again and you repeat

69:48 process. So you do this once you write it down, Check

69:53 Got things wrong, correct. Okay a break. Do it again blank

69:58 of paper. Turn over my write it all out. First time

70:00 do it maybe 10% right next time do it 20%. Right next time

70:03 do it 40%. Right next time do it 60% right, takes you

70:06 five or six times till you're oh I can rewrite my notes from

70:10 from scratch. And now what you've is you've organized information in your

70:14 you know where to find that information you need it. You read a

70:16 and it's immediately gonna pull up that thing that you've written down. It's

70:21 , oh I know the answer to question, You don't even have to

70:23 at the list of answers, you'll it in your brain and then you

70:25 through the list was like oh there's answer and then you answer right?

70:31 that make sense that I explain Well no, I'm running out of

70:34 for the break because I can see brains are kind of turning into

70:38 right? You do this about five six times. Some people might be

70:42 . Some people will be three. just don't know. Yeah, I'm

70:46 way longer than I wanted to. Why don't we go ahead and take

70:50 a five minute break and then I'll finish this stuff up and then we'll

70:54 how far we can get into the . I'm just pausing myself here.

71:04 , there might be a couple But this stuff is easy to catch

71:08 on. So the idea here is when you're studying your notes are your

71:13 friend? All right. That's that's key thing. And it's how you

71:17 your notes. Is this repetitive writing down? I'll have people come and

71:21 I tried what you did and I'll them. They'll say, well,

71:23 typed it all and said, don't . It takes you know when you

71:26 , your brain can turn off if probably noticed that when your handwriting stuff

71:30 moment you stop thinking about what you're at the moment your hand stops

71:33 So really kind of getting your, know, starting handwriting stuff is going

71:38 be away the best way to kind go about doing this. But don't

71:42 forget. You know, your textbook valuable if you don't understand something and

71:45 like, you know, you can to your notes and if you don't

71:47 it in there, go to the . See if the textbooks mentioned something

71:50 that. That's kind of a good where to go. It's it's there

71:54 that purpose. It's a resource. lot of people like to go to

71:58 . Like a lot of people will and try to google up information.

72:00 can tell you right now there's a amount of wrong information. Um even

72:05 my field. So just give you brief background. I'm a reproductive

72:10 Alright. So I've in theory. , the reproductive systems backwards and

72:17 And I've gone to conferences and talk colleagues who teach the same thing I

72:21 except they're teaching the wrong stuff like tell stuff that's like, no,

72:25 not true, you know? And it's it's important to know that people

72:30 are considered to be experts still don't stuff, but they're not reproductive

72:34 They weren't trained the way I was . Alright. So their textbook is

72:38 . And then of course, you , in theory, you know,

72:41 will record these classes. It doesn't that they're always gonna work. Um

72:45 do record but you know, I press delete accidentally. You don't

72:50 but if they're available use them if don't understand, but don't use these

72:54 your first line. This is your line. Your first line is your

72:57 personal notes secondly, don't be afraid ask questions. If you are already

73:00 in this, you wouldn't be taking class. We wouldn't have to have

73:03 be here. You are learners. so if something doesn't make sense,

73:07 okay to ask the question. I'm gonna look at, you know that

73:09 dumb. God what type of stupid are you? That's not what we

73:14 here. My job is to train and teach you the information. You

73:18 already know. Some of you have taken stuff in high school and have

73:21 general background on this. Some of have taken some biology, some of

73:24 are coming in your fresh and you know this stuff and it's okay when

73:28 looking at it going get this and just say, look, I didn't

73:32 the way you explained that or I'm not going to be offended.

73:36 right. Oftentimes I have to repeat to make something clear. So don't

73:41 afraid to ask a question, You can tell she has no idea

73:45 going on. He's asking the question , right? So ask the

73:50 Don't be afraid to ask questions in . And then again, if you're

73:53 at night and you have a question you just can't figure out, email

73:57 , I may not get to you away, but I will get to

74:00 , you know? And very often I do, if it's a simple

74:03 , I can respond. But if something that's more complex, I'm

74:05 well, maybe we need to talk this. So one of the things

74:09 was asked a moment ago while everyone's out, I was like, all

74:12 , I'm looking online. And I on top hat that you've got this

74:16 is called open reading, what's his reading? Well, there are

74:20 not all of you. I mean you're like me, you're lazy,

74:23 there are people who are gunners who the entire textbook to be able to

74:27 . And then given time that's what open reading is. It's all the

74:30 that you're gonna be reading. It's all there now, but without any

74:33 the questions so that you can't just and answer all the questions when the

74:37 comes. Alright. Um So you also when it's time to take the

74:44 , remember I got practice questions available you. So they're not always good

74:48 , they're just questions, you So the textbook has stuff I I

74:53 practice exams that are like questions I off old exams that you can use

74:58 just understand that they're not good if were good, I wouldn't have pulled

75:01 off the exam, but they're just to come. Oh how does dr

75:05 ask a question on an exam? kind of a good way to find

75:08 . And you can say, oh is a bad question, that's you

75:11 , I try to make I try improve over time, right? So

75:16 are like the last resort, This where it's like okay, I think

75:19 ready to go in and and take exams. That's what what you can

75:24 . I throw this slide up I don't want to spend, beleaguered

75:27 . But remember we've already talked about before class, you read, you

75:30 to class, you organize your you do the achieve homeworks, you

75:34 start working on the top hats in a way that you're always kind of

75:39 yourself one so that you're really never the information when you do that,

75:47 start internalizing and it becomes long term and it moves away from short term

75:51 . And again, this is just of the same thing. How do

75:53 prepare for an exam? Well I preparing for the exam when I start

75:58 that first text or that that textbook that first day and I go through

76:03 , those, those notes that I'm and I'm creating um, the materials

76:08 need and I'm reviewing on a regular . That's really what all this stuff

76:12 . I would add. You don't to stay up late. You study

76:16 you feel your 100% comfortable once you're with the information you're done studying.

76:20 lot of people don't realize that they that studying means I have to stay

76:23 late and you know, do monster and energy drinks, you know,

76:29 then come in and have that caffeine off in the middle of an

76:34 Now when you're done, you're And so if you start studying at

76:37 reasonable hour, you can be done a reasonable hour. And I said

76:41 grad school I was where I figured this stuff out. And what happened

76:46 is that I learned that if I on a regular basis, exam days

76:50 regular days, it's just something that do and I would go out,

76:54 , I told you I went to . I mean my life was about

76:58 stuff. I mean, yeah, school. I like learning the biology

77:02 , but I'm a social guy like beer. I like going out and

77:06 darts and playing pool with my I'm old now. I don't do

77:09 anymore. But that's what I like do. And so once I learned

77:12 to study, I knew when it time to stop studying, I could

77:15 do that on the night before an . Can you imagine a normal night

77:19 of like, you know, the hours of panic that you go through

77:22 night before an exam. I'm looking a couple of you and I know

77:25 you guys do that right? You're , you know, you're judging me

77:29 my future and everything depends on And the answer is no, it

77:33 . It's not that big of a . An exam simply test whether or

77:37 you learn something over that week before that unit before, that's all it

77:43 right. To get into these professional , you have to do well in

77:48 right? That's the idea. So not, it's not just one

77:51 It's all of the exams, So what you have to do is

77:54 have to change your approach and your . That's that's how you become

78:00 right? So that promise you made yourself this semester, things are going

78:04 change. Just live into it. right. On the day of

78:09 just treat it in a decent Hopefully you have breakfast in the

78:12 That's just fuel for the fire. evidence suggests that it's not how it

78:17 . Um, don't panic, never about exam. If you if

78:20 if you know you haven't studied, go in and just recognize everything is

78:23 bonus question, Right? If I , I mean, I might get

78:28 right. Um, take the celebrate afterwards. All right. If

78:33 don't know how to take an there is a there is a method

78:39 a multiple choice exam. Um, I'm shooting for an average of

78:43 that means I want the majority of students really. The average of the

78:48 , the general population of students, answer about 65% of the questions.

78:53 that's what it means, right? so that means 65% of the question

78:57 be like, just gimmes, So don't overthink stuff. And you

79:02 , the idea is, is remember just asking what's there. Don't don't

79:05 to add in stuff into the You know? Yes, I know

79:09 are bad test writers and there are who try to trick on exams,

79:12 don't try to trick you on exam I want to write you an exam

79:15 I'm tricking you. Trust me, one will get a question right,

79:18 you can do the same thing to , right? It's it's not hard

79:21 write an exam where you don't get correct. So, the idea here

79:25 just think that you know, if shooting for 65%, that means about

79:29 questions should be gimmes. And so you wanna do is you want to

79:31 answer the question as you go Start with question number one. If

79:34 know the answer, great, answer . But if you don't skip

79:37 don't don't try to guess what it . Just skip it and go through

79:40 answer all the questions. All Get yourself up to that mean.

79:44 then what you do is then you to the harder questions and you keep

79:47 that. And there's there's a way go about doing that where you need

79:51 understand that. When you're looking at harder question. It's not that the

79:55 answer is hidden. It's just that being asked in a way to make

79:58 think a little bit more. And so the example I have to

80:01 in class for this is if I you the question, the color of

80:04 sky is blank. What is the blue? All right. So,

80:09 know the answer. Right? But want maybe if I want to make

80:12 more challenging, I'm not gonna put as an answer, right? Because

80:16 is easy. I may have to you think about different kinds of blue

80:20 now, I'm not gonna put sky because that's like super easy, but

80:23 might put something like not as your you know something along those those lines

80:28 maybe cerulean. So like three women here know the answer what cerulean

80:33 All the guys are going, there's kind of blue. Yeah, but

80:38 the idea is that you're working So if you know the answer to

80:42 , stick with your answer and okay. He's challenging me to think

80:48 the memorization. All right, because truth is you're going into a field

80:53 requires you to think beyond memorization and kind of what the training is.

80:58 work your way through. And so end up finally, you'll get to

81:00 last group of questions. There might one or two where it's like,

81:03 don't know what it is. It's of these two answers, flip your

81:08 . If it's b then you pick if it's see you pixie and you

81:12 on. But that's like one or questions, that's nothing. The last

81:16 is checking exam. This is where people kind of like freak out.

81:19 like I don't like checking my exams a multiple choice exam is basically a

81:24 false statement. It really is. what you want to do in

81:28 a lot of people don't understand read the question and then just read

81:32 answer if it makes a true you got the right answer. If

81:36 doesn't make a true statement, you the wrong answer and this is really

81:39 to see right, right color of sky is he says blue.

81:44 Well if you read the color of sky is red, would you know

81:46 you picked the wrong answer? Watch what happens if you pick or

81:52 you read all the answers, the is blue, okay? Yeah the

81:56 is gray. Well maybe this is cloud question. The color of the

82:02 is orange. Maybe this is the question. Do you see what happens

82:07 you start remembering that you study this ? But the test is asking you

82:11 this much information and you start adding stuff and that's where people start making

82:16 and they start panicking because you're trying figure out going please I want to

82:19 to you that I learned something. right. And so that's what you're

82:23 to avoid is here's my question, is my answer. If it makes

82:27 true statement, your good move And if you're not sure, take

82:32 step back, natural instincts usually are when it comes to these types of

82:39 . All right. If you have about this, come and see me

82:45 right, before the exam, After exam, that's fine as well,

82:49 I wanna do is I want to kind of introduce you to some ideas

82:53 A. And P. Alright. not gonna get through the full lecture

82:56 because apparently I know how to yammer about just about anything. Alright.

83:01 what I wanna do is I want just kind of give you an overview

83:04 an understanding of how we approach And P. Alright. First off

83:10 in general are I don't know C. D. Is the best

83:14 I'm gonna come up with here. like putting things into boxes.

83:18 So very often what you're gonna see we're looking at how do we organize

83:24 . And so when we look at sort of organism, what we've done

83:28 we're like we look at the organ like let's let's tear it down and

83:31 what it's made of. And then use those little things. We can

83:35 that there's these pieces that come together create the ultimate organism or whatever it

83:39 that you're looking at. All And so that's what this pyramid is

83:42 of recognizes that there's these levels of . Now, if I were doing

83:47 , I would have put the chemical down here and put the organism level

83:50 there because the organism is dependent upon these things and all these other things

83:54 not vice versa, but artistic Artistic choice. Alright. But but

84:00 essence you can think about like this I think of an organism like

84:06 right? I'm made up of a of different organ systems, Right?

84:10 know about the digestive system. That's easy one, Right? That's where

84:14 put food in, poop comes out other side and you get all the

84:17 . Yes, I will say stuff that. All right. Right.

84:20 familiar with the respiratory system. Air in your right. You get the

84:25 and you spit out the carbon Right? So, you've got these

84:29 and all these different systems have unique that allow the organized system to

84:34 But organ systems are dependent upon organs organs are basically dependent upon these

84:41 Or these these groups of cells that call tissues and tissues are basically groups

84:46 cells. So, that means I to know what a cell is.

84:48 cell is the lowest living organism. cells are made up of chemicals that

84:53 are combined in such ways to create organism. So, ultimately, when

84:57 dealing with an organism, you need have that fundamental understanding of what are

85:02 chemicals that are involved. These are basic building blocks that give rise to

85:07 cells, CELLS are the lowest form life that exist. You know,

85:12 everyone was all freaked out about the , I know people are still freaked

85:15 about viruses with the monkey pox and running around now, but viruses aren't

85:21 things. We put them in biology there's no other place for them to

85:25 studied. But they're not living They're dependent upon the cells that they

85:29 in order to be able to do stuff that they do, which we'll

85:32 in the next slide. The cells the smallest block in the body or

85:39 any as far as any organism is , They're like the legos of

85:44 And what you do is you put legos together and you get these

85:46 There's four basic types of tissues. gonna see multiple times. You'll see

85:50 state these four tissues right? But the tissues and the different combinations of

85:55 four tissues that give rise to the and these organs are what do specific

86:00 in your body? Just use a simple one. You all know this

86:03 ? The heart. What does the do, pumps blood and also expresses

86:09 . No, no, no. it pumps blood. All right.

86:12 , it's like, okay, in for the heart to pump blood.

86:15 needs to have unique tissues. It to have muscle tissue to actually do

86:19 contraction. It needs to have connective from the muscles to attach to.

86:23 needs to have nervous tissue in there order for the signals to be sent

86:28 the heart to do what it And lastly, you have epithelium that

86:31 it and protects it. Alright. , an organ like the heart

86:36 which is very different than what the does, which is to break down

86:40 Yet it still has all four I breakdown tissue breakdown materials that you've

86:47 right? But it still has those basic tissues in different combinations. All

86:52 . And then what you do is get these organs that work together and

86:56 where you get those organ systems. , in order to understand us,

87:00 need to understand all those other levels really what I'm trying to get out

87:05 . Now, life has some very characteristics. First off, we're energy

87:11 and energy consuming. Alright, what that means is we have metabolic

87:16 , metabolism is simply the sum of the chemical reactions. So, remember

87:20 chemicals are the lowest level or the level in which everything is built,

87:25 need to understand chemical reactions now for of you who are starting to panic

87:28 , oh my God, he's a . No, I'm not a

87:30 We're not gonna do chemical reactions in . But if you're planning on a

87:35 in the health professions, you will exposed to chemistry multiple times at different

87:40 of difficulty, depending on which field area going into. All right.

87:46 metabolism are those chemical reactions that drive life functions? All right. You've

87:51 of this term? Anabel is um probably in a different setting. If

87:57 take steroids, you're taking anabolic steroids grow muscle to make yourself bigger.

88:05 ? Anabel is um is simply the reactions that make large molecules from small

88:12 . That's kind of easy metabolism is opposite. Taking large molecules and chopping

88:17 up and making smaller molecules from And so, if you take all

88:20 anabolic reactions, all the cattle bolic that some of them is your metabolic

88:25 , right? Another characteristic of life growth and repair week increase in

88:32 You all began life as a single , Right? Father's sperm, mother

88:38 comes together. Those aren't even complete . Those are half cells that came

88:41 and created a unique you Alright? one cell became two cells to sell

88:47 became 44 became 88 became somewhere between and 16. We already started seeing

88:53 we're division that early. All And so what ends up happening is

88:57 that little tiny single cell became the ft 6 ft. You maybe some

89:01 your four ft Some things I don't . Alright. But you're complex.

89:12 fall apart. They get overworked. mutate all sorts of things and your

89:17 sits and looks at those things and , you know what? That's not

89:20 correctly. You are a bad You go die in a fire and

89:23 bad cell goes, okay, I'll that. We have mechanisms to go

89:27 and repair the machinery. The chemical inside of individual cells right Now.

89:34 doesn't mean it's 100% efficient, but mechanisms do exist alright, so we're

89:39 of growing and specializing in terms of different types of cells that we have

89:43 our bodies, right? And then have a mechanism for fixing cells that

89:48 behave right? We're also adaptive, that we respond to our environment and

89:53 maintain balance within our body relative to environment. So uh anyone go outside

89:59 . I don't know how hot it today, but anyone was outside yesterday

90:02 a little hot kind of kind a bit like you walk outside and you

90:06 into flame. No, you probably right now. The reason we sweat

90:12 because we want to maintain a body of 37 degrees C. When that

90:17 temperature begins to rise, we need remove that heat from our bodies.

90:22 in an environment where it's I don't how hot it was, 98 F

90:27 roughly that's roughly 37 degrees C. basically it's like your body is

90:33 no no no no no no no . I'm gonna start overheating here in

90:36 a second. So I need to shedding off heat And it does.

90:40 through the process of sweating. So you're doing is you're maintaining that 37°C

90:46 despite the fact that it's much much outside. Cold blooded animals like snakes

90:52 turtles and stuff like that. Can't that sort of homeostasis. But they

90:57 have other things that they do in of home, static balance, maintaining

91:02 . The other thing is, we're . When you walked in this

91:05 this room is slightly dark, relatively . When you went out to go

91:08 the restroom, was it bright out ? Did you squint and your eyes

91:13 and then eventually you didn't have to any longer. Yeah. Right.

91:18 an adaptive nous. You're able to to your environment. So when it's

91:22 you sweat, that's an adaptive When it's cold, you shiver,

91:27 that's also there to maintain homeostasis. , So homeostasis is maintaining constant internal

91:34 . Responsiveness is being able to react different types of stimuli. I use

91:38 for an example. But if I we put a stinky flavor in or

91:44 smell in the room, would would you be able to smell

91:48 How would you what would your response ? Yeah. That look right there

91:52 went. Yeah, it's like there's responsiveness like stinky. How do I

92:00 ? Lastly reproductive? Alright, When say reproduction, we have two meetings

92:06 , we can create new organisms. where my expertise is in is in

92:11 physiology. So organism all levels. looking at creating new new us is

92:17 . But reproduction also refers to the of cells for the purposes of growth

92:22 our repair, You're constantly shedding skin you're constantly producing skin cells because you're

92:28 assaulting the surface of your body. ? So you have these dead cells

92:33 need to be replaced and that's an of reproduction. All right now,

92:37 this case it's growth and repair, it is a form of reproduction.

92:43 if you are missing any one of four things, you're not a living

92:47 , viruses are incapable of reproducing on own. They can't repair on their

92:54 . Um they don't necessarily adapt but you can probably make the argument

92:59 they do and they are incapable of production or consumption. They are solely

93:04 upon the host cell in which they . Just as an example. This

93:10 slide right here shows you um the between uh all living things that I

93:17 are, you know, the basic block is the cell what we have

93:20 here is a bacterium over here. would be like a mammalian cell.

93:24 not necessarily mammalian, but we're just to say that for the purposes of

93:33 , if cells are the living building , that means the machinery that they

93:38 in order to be living includes that giant list of stuff right here.

93:43 right. So, they have this to maintain homeostasis. They're able to

93:47 themselves and it doesn't matter if you're single celled organism or a multicellular

93:53 you're gonna have the same basic building or parts to you that allow you

93:57 do it. So, both of you can see, you know,

94:00 gonna spend all our time focusing over . But I want to understand,

94:03 gonna look at this. You have membrane. So you can see here

94:07 that membrane, it's the purple And over here is the blue

94:10 You have genetic material. So, the genetic material. Genetic material is

94:14 be sort of nucleus over here. have this fluid that has chemicals in

94:19 . Alright. And it's the chemicals that cell that allowed to do the

94:22 that it does, and so that's to be found circulating in that side

94:26 all fluid. Now, there's other that make these cells unique from

94:32 for example, you have membrane bound . In other words, you compartmentalize

94:36 side is all. That's your site olic fluid. Think about your apartment

94:41 your home. Do you have a specifically set aside for showering and doing

94:48 your dirty business? What do you it? A bathroom? Thank

94:54 Where do you cook your food in kitchen? Do you want to do

94:59 two things in the same place? . Right. So what they've done

95:04 an apartment is you've separated the space have one that's specifically for fixing

95:10 One space that's specific for um um know, taking care of bodily

95:17 We'll just put it that way. cell has done the same thing as

95:20 . And what you've done is you these unique compartments to do unique chemical

95:24 so that you can have a specific an efficient space for that to take

95:30 . All right. The other thing that you have unique gene expression.

95:35 entire genome, all the DNA in encode for all the instructions of how

95:41 body is supposed to work. But cell doesn't use every single instruction.

95:47 that make sense? Right. if you have a muscle cell,

95:52 been designed specifically to go through contractions relaxation, it's gonna behave differently

95:57 say, a neuron which is responsible sending chemical communication. Alright. And

96:04 there's specialization that's taken place so that cells can do something unique within that

96:11 . And so this is what we to in this little slide here is

96:15 you life starts off as a single . But we get this unique

96:19 Typically you get this this this specialization differentiation is irreversible. So once you

96:26 a muscle cell, that muscle cell forever going to be a muscle

96:28 Once you make that step forward, can't go back. All right,

96:35 don't have a good example of this human life. But let's say once

96:39 matriculated from your sophomore year to your year. You can't go back and

96:43 a sophomore again, sorry, you've your 60 hours. You're now stuck

96:48 a junior. Alright. You don't a choice. That's what you

96:53 All right now, the tissues that have, you can see these are

97:00 random cells. The cells that we become specialized, unique. And that's

97:05 gives rise to those tissues so that organs themselves can do the things that

97:10 do. Alright, That's where we those specialty functions. Right? And

97:16 the tissues, there's four of We said there's epithelium epithelium is responsible

97:20 covering. For the most part. we're gonna dive in deeper a little

97:25 later, we're gonna look and The epithelium doesn't just cover there's multiple

97:28 . But in a very general epithelium things. Your skin is a form

97:33 epithelium, it protects the inside of body from the outside of your

97:38 you have connective tissue. It's one the few things there need appropriately

97:43 It's like the glue that holds the together. So whenever you have connective

97:48 , what you're doing is you're connecting thing to something else. You have

97:54 muscle tissue. That's an easy one remember because we're already familiar with my

97:57 muscles help me move things. There different types of muscles and there are

98:01 types of movements. But generally muscle moves. And lastly, the

98:05 tissue plays a role in controlling It's the mechanism or the cells that

98:11 responsible for controlling other cells. All now, when you think of an

98:17 , all four of these tissues are going to be there. But it

98:20 necessarily mean that that's gonna be You might see a tissue or an

98:24 that has three of them. But speaking all four there, it's just

98:27 combinations and and the quantity. for example, a heart has lots

98:32 muscle cells. Doesn't have a lot connective tissue, doesn't have a lot

98:35 epithelium. It doesn't have a lot nervous tissue. When you go into

98:39 brain, you're going to see lots nervous tissue. Some connective tissue,

98:43 muscle. Do you see what I'm ? So, it's those types of

98:47 , right? So it's their combination how we arrange them and you

98:53 how they interact with each others. tissues give rise to those unique

98:58 Now, we're going to come back this again when we get to

99:02 But one of the things that's unique epithelium is that it exhibits this

99:08 And the reason it has its polarity because part of the job of the

99:12 is to service that barrier to allow in and allow things out of whatever

99:17 you're looking at. So thinking about skin, for example, we see

99:21 things secrete things under the surface of skin. We can also absorb stuff

99:26 through our skin. Anyone who's ever a patch for whatever purpose. I

99:31 , if you've ever if you are , would you rather have the scopolamine

99:36 ? For example, basically the idea if it's lipid soluble, I can

99:41 it through the skin lotion is right? So it provides this barrier

99:48 which things can pass through one way the other. And it's very selective

99:52 how it's going to do it. , if it's going to be able

99:54 discrete stuff or absorb things, that you're gonna have polarity. So,

99:58 have what is called the a pickle . That's a surface that's facing

100:03 And then we have the basil lateral for the base base lateral for the

100:09 and base lateral are unique relative to surface. Put another way when I'm

100:17 with this with cells and I have creating an optical surface where I want

100:22 to take place. I want that than the cells that are stuck together

100:26 make sense, right? So, got things that are holding themselves

100:30 So, those things are gonna be relative to the things that allow things

100:34 pass through. And the reason they're is because of the different chemicals that

100:39 up or a part of those muscle tissue. These are contract.

100:44 cells, there's gonna be blood vessels feed them the nutrients they need in

100:49 to go through those contractions. There's different types. The one you're most

100:53 with the skeletal. It's you can that right everyone you can move

100:59 right? It's primarily involved in local . So whenever you think about moving

101:03 walking, but then we have cardiac . That's not something that you have

101:07 sort of direct control over. It's muscle. It just does what it

101:12 . It's it's self regulating. It's found in the heart. Then we

101:15 smooth muscle which is basically this involuntary that's found within all the hollow

101:21 So think of digestive tract, respiratory , blood vessels, anything that is

101:25 tube has smooth muscle around and allows contraction and relaxation around that tube,

101:32 tissue is broken down into types. have neurons. These are the signaling

101:36 or the signaling cells. That's whenever think of a neuron, these are

101:40 of what they kind of look They basically receive, process and transmit

101:44 signals and chemical signals. And then them is kind of these connective like

101:51 but their origins are are part of tissue. They're called glial cells.

101:58 is a word that's really easy to . Glial means glue. And so

102:04 literally the cells that play a connective role in the nervous tissue. Their

102:09 cells. They're nourishing cells. They're glue that holds the nervous tissue

102:14 They don't play the same role that do neurons allow cells are cells that

102:18 to other cells. These do not a really bad explanation for him but

102:24 going to work. As I connective tissue. This is what connects

102:28 together. You'll usually see on my that abbreviated C. T. Because

102:33 lazy and connective tissues along word long words. There's lots of different types

102:39 connective tissues. When we think of tissue, we think of things like

102:43 where there's lots of different cell types fibers and stuff. But you can

102:47 of things like blood is a type connective tissue and the reason that they're

102:52 connective tissues are their embryonic origins. not gonna do the embryology in here

102:57 you may at some time in your career take a class and they'll sit

103:01 and yammer on for days about the origins or geological origins of all these

103:06 tissues. But the relationship these two of being connected tissue just arises from

103:13 . All right, the matrix or you find in this environment is what

103:19 the connective tissues function. So if fibrous, then you can kind of

103:23 a sense that maybe what it does hold things together. If it's like

103:27 where it's liquid. Well, maybe I'm doing here is I'm moving materials

103:30 a fluid environment. See so the itself where you find it is what

103:44 , All this slide is showing you how we integrate this. So what

103:48 looking at here. This right here a picture of the stomach. This

103:51 a cut through through that. You kind of see here out here on

103:55 surface, that would be epithelium underlying this connective tissue here. You can

104:03 muscle tissue. What you can't see this picture because the artist didn't do

104:06 good job of it is that there's nervous tissue that's running through this as

104:10 , telling the muscles when to telling the environment how to behave when

104:16 are exposed to it. But the here is when you're dealing with an

104:20 , you have two or more tissues into conjunction towards a common goal and

104:27 you get a bunch of these organs and that's where you get your

104:31 So, we're going to finish with last I guess it's three slides and

104:37 is nothing that you've never seen All right, there, all this

104:40 is is uh is stuff that you know in a very general sense.

104:46 have the integral mandatory system. You not have heard that word, but

104:49 just refers to your skin, your , your nails, and your sweat

104:52 . Alright. Their job is to and defend the body. It plays

104:56 role in regulating the body temperatures, tissue. You can see right here

105:02 by the blue. These are the , that little thing up there.

105:05 a brain. So, you got spinal cord, the nerves and the

105:08 . That's your nervous system. This job is to to detect internal

105:13 signals, communicate that to the nervous that ultimately sends a signal right back

105:19 to that other tissue and tells it to do, right? So you're

105:23 responses if you touch a hot what do you do with your

105:28 Move away? All right, muscle work without the nervous tissue telling it

105:33 to do. Musculoskeletal system is basically bones, your ligaments, your tendons

105:39 your muscles that are involved in both . So that's locomotion as well as

105:46 and support. You know, your important if it's covered by a

105:52 it's an easy one right there. heart is important. Why?

105:57 What pumps all the nutrients through my ? I was gonna say something silly

106:01 love and stuff, but you but the idea is I've got a

106:05 plate in front of that, so can't harm that last little bit

106:13 This is stuff all these next few , stuff that's covered in A.

106:15 P. Two. This stuff is stuff we're gonna cover here in this

106:19 this course for the rest of the . So all the fun stuff in

106:22 next unit or in the next But basically the respiratory system basically,

106:27 how we get air moving in and of the body. So we can

106:30 oxygen for our cellular needs and get of the waste carbon dioxide.

106:36 so there's the nasal passage tricky in lungs. We usually think of the

106:40 cardiovascular system. Um Here we Right there. There's your heart.

106:44 can see the arteries and the basically, it moves materials through the

106:49 . All right. We have the system in the immune system. You've

106:52 been hearing a lot about the immune over the last couple of years.

106:56 . Probably a lot of stuff that's even correct. All right. But

106:59 idea here is that this is our system. Were designed to kill everything

107:04 anything that's not part of us that put in our bodies. Alright.

107:09 actually pretty good at doing it. system is not a real system,

107:13 it's a series of organs that play role in communicating with other cells.

107:18 the idea here is I'm using hormones a signaling mechanism to tell the body

107:22 to maintain homeostasis instead of using the system. So, there's a lot

107:26 structures that are involved here. They're even related to each other. The

107:29 only relationship between them is the fact they play a role in regulating growth

107:35 and reproduction. Some homeostasis as urinary system. Well, basically what

107:45 doing is a way to remove waste the blood. So that's your

107:47 your your your your urinary bladder and boy saying that all together is a

107:52 of fun. But basically what you're . You're just trying to get rid

107:55 stuff out of your body digestive This is how we get fuel in

107:59 bodies. For the most part it all those structures that we talked about

108:02 on when I drew that picture, , salivary glands, esophagus, stomach

108:06 , so on and so forth. other glands basically it's digestion and

108:11 And lastly, the reproductive systems. are two of them. Males have

108:15 testes, epidemics fast reference copy the the penis as well as some

108:20 clans, females. It's ovaries, tubes, uterus and vagina memory

108:25 The job here for these two systems because we're sexually diamorphine is to bring

108:31 gametes. The male gamete and female together. When they come together,

108:35 form a unique organism. And so structure and design here is simply to

108:40 those two things to produce them and bring them together. That's that's the

108:44 goal is for those things. you're made up of all these different

108:52 and what we're doing when we get , we're going to start diving into

108:55 anatomy and the structures that are going lead to those first three systems that

109:00 looked at. But in order to that, we've got to walk through

109:03 this is the boring part. And apologize. I don't design these
